Midnite Madness LXXIV—Recollecting The Beast

ALRIGHT. This month's show saw me recalling the best of the older AFITFOG mixes, some of which date back to 2009. I will be re-uploading these sporadically over the next days/months/years, so keep checking back for new links.
Thanks as always to you for listening and making last month's show was Number 1 in the Mixcloud Metal Charts (!?!), and to Flo for his killer new mix that will follow this post shortly. I will return with more darkness and evil on August 25th. I kinda feel an old school black metal show brewing, but then I have four or five ideas for shows ready to be devoured... In time!

Maniac Monday XLVII - AFITFOG & Friends

ALRIGHT. Thanks again not only to those who tuned in for this week's show, but to the show's selectors. As I said the previous show, this one would me made up of listener's choices, throwing the NO REQUESTS motto out the window momentarily.
So, here goes; Fenriz picked tracks 1-4, Sid 5-8, Nuno 9-11, Brad 12-15, Anna 15-19, Glenn 20-22, Odd Martin chose 23-27, and I finished off proceedings. I thought it was a pretty good show, so thanks again to all those I just mentioned.
Maniac Monday returns for the last time this year on December 30th, where I will be playing only releases from this fine year. Promises to be a good one, if I get a chance to listen to some stuff I got in over the last month or so—seriously, so much shit. There is also a black metal show brewing and an all-out death metal one on the horizon too, so 2014 will see Maniac Monday continue much in the same vain. SOON.

A Fist In The Face Of God presents... Still Holding Strong - A Compilation by Brad

Alright. On Maniac Monday XX I previewed some tracks from my buddy Bradley Smith's latest hardcore compilation, and, well, here it is. I will leave the talking to Brad and his mix from here on in.
Apologies for the no-download on this one. Every time either me, Brad, or Vice tried to upload it it got taken down within seconds. Really lame, but the Soundcloud link will have to suffice, I am afraid. Big thanks to whoever kept taking down, though. Your work has not gone unnoticed...

"This mix starts off really metallic, even darker and harder than anything I've compiled before, yet finishes with an uplifting, spiritual side. And with the mix's central core, I wanted to show the old school roots that unite all branches of hardcore. Free yourself of the darkness of man by returning to your roots and there you will achieve enlightenment. Or, taken another way, let hardcore own your soul from one end of the spectrum to the other."

Maniac Monday XX - Fight Back, pt. II

Alright. I said a new punk/hardcore/crossover/crust/d-beat etc. show was coming and I did not lie. Here it is, with an interview with Bradley Smith of Nocturnal Cult, talking hardcore and crossover. He also picked out five tracks from his upcoming mix, Still Holding Strong, the third in the AFITFOG presents... series. If you missed the previous two, part one is here, and part two here. The new mix will be up in the coming weeks, so keep checking back for that one.
Five more shows to go this year—anything you would like to hear, maniacs? I am maybe going to do another year show, 1985 perhaps, another demo, epic, or thrash show. Let me know.

Maniac Monday, obituary IX - Hail Quorthon

Sorry for the delay posting this, I only just found it online now. Total Bathory worship to mark the mighty Quorthon's 8-year anniversary last week. Thanks to him for making some of the best records EVER and to Fenriz, Daniel Salsten, Sindre Solem, Brad Smith, and Tom Swine for taking some time out to talk about Bathory for the show.
Next show will either be 1986-only or another heavy metal set. Not sure yet, trying not to play thrash every week haha so I may go with the latter. Tune in at 2100GMT on Monday June 18th to find out!

A Fist in the Face of God presents... Thrashing Rage, Vol. III

Alright! It's been, what, five months now since an offering brimming with thrash lava erupted into your very eyes. Well, Bradley Smith and Cato Stormoen have made a follow-up to their insanely popular Thrashing Rage, Vol. II mixtape, this time abandoning the thrash gods of old in favour of the new flesh. Yes, that is right, this killer 19-track comp features only bands from the latter part of the 90s, 2000s, right up until this very year. I've actually been planning to do one of these myself for a while now, but what with all the dragon-fighting, wench-fucking and weed-smoking, there just hasn't been the time.
Words from Brad after the break; Cato is too busy being a real motherfucker somewhere to give his ten cents right now, sorry.
The previous two Thrashing Rage mixes focused on old school bands that deserved a shining beam of unholy light cast upon them. But talking with Cato, I realised that there are a whole new crop of diabolical thrash bands whose music corrupts your blackened soul. And we decided then and there to unleash a tornado of TRUE thrash, but with a modern perspective!
Brad

A Fist in the Face of God presents... Thrashing Rage, Vol. II

That's right, lady, eat the baby. It's been three months and over 1000 downloads of their first collaboration, but Brad and Cato have composed another trans-Atlantic mix of forgotten ancient metal all for your listening pleasure, or displeasure, depending on how you feel about obscure 80s thrash. Words from the mixmasters below...
Unheralded thrash got a shot in the arm with our first mix, so Cato and I decided that we needed to take another journey into the thrash underground, though this time it would be darker, more obscure, and ultimately more dangerous! When our two sets of selections were united I was left battered and bruised. So once again, I'll let the music take no prisoners as it shreds your eardrums.
Brad
BEWARE as another Thrashing Rage comp sweeps across the land leaving only the tormented screams of those who dare to hear it left... This is the eve of darkness!!!

A Fist in the Face of God presents... Thrashing Rage - A Mix by Brad & Cato

Okay, so it's taken me an AGE to get it together to post anything on here, but the metal Gods have blessed us with a brand new mix, of the thrash variety, courtesy of regular A Fist in the Face of God mixmaker Bradley Smith and Deathhammer's Cato Stormoen.
In a similar vein to the crust mix Brad did for me with Sindre back in March, this was conducted solely over email, as Brad is still living it up in Hawaii while Cato leaves in a cave somewhere in Norway, battling the cold winds of death. Anyways, it is an impressive line-up, with some surprises for even the most weathered thrasher out there. Words from Brad and Cato below.

So many thrash bands out there never received the attention they truly deserved, so I took this opportunity to collaborate with one of my favorite up and coming thrash maniacs to spread the word on some unheralded, yet truly explosive and corrosive bands. So I'll keep this short and sweet and let the music do the talking. Thrash Hard!!!
Brad
I have never collaborated on a comp like this before so I just piled together some killer tracks which I thought would fit. Some old favorite tracks of mine and also some stuff I came across recently, like Anacrusis. The cool thing about this für mich is the amount of new bands I discovered through Bradley's side of the comp. Hails and play it loud! DIE HARD!!!
Cato

A Fist in the Face of God presents... In Crust We Trust - A Mix by Brad & Sindre

When Nocturnal Cult scribe Bradley Smith said he and Sindre SolemObliteration frontman and Nekromantheon bassist and sometimes vocalist—were doing a crust mix, my first thought was: great. Given that Brad lives in Hawaii and Sindre lives in Norway, there was one small obstacle to overcome; the Atlantic Ocean. However, thanks to the internet they managed to compose it solely over email and here it is, with a little intro from Mr. Smith.

The
In Crust We Trust compilation represents a cross-Atlantic crust duel between Sindre, Norwegian vocalist for Obliteration/Nekromantheon, and Brad, American editor Nocturnal Cult Webzine, each one trying to destroy the other by picking the most crushing or devastating crust track they can find in order to annihilate the opposition. So who wins this battle between metal brothers? Only you can decide.

A Fist in the Face of God presents... Out Of The Dark/Into The Light - A Compilation by Brad

After the success of Brad, of Nocturnal Cult‘s, first hardcore mix, he swiftly made me another one. Well, apparently the first one was kinda old, so he felt obliged to make me a new new one, if you follow. Anyways, I like to workout to hardcore–nothing too strenuous: some press-ups, a few sit-ups. I call it “the crucial workout”. I told Brad this and he said, “The first part of it won’t be much of a workout session. It is some of the darkest hardcore out there. Very Metallic! But then the workout session begins. Hehe.” Well, here it is, you decide.
