DEMOndays XIV

ALRIGHT. Apologies for the no-show last week, it was Tuesday before I remembered, then I forgot again 'til Wednesday, at which point I thought 'FUCK IT'. So, here is what I proclaimed to be "demo of the year" on my latest show. Great old-style punk with the godly Janick Varning on vocals, whose work on the After The Bombs EP—Terminal Filth Stench Bastard—is some of my favourite crust/punk ever. This is less ripping but just as good, so if you were too lazy to download this from their Bandcamp, click the link below.

Parasytes (Canada) Demo 15 [2015]
1. Blinded
2. Burning Down the City
3. Melting Brain
4. Bloodsucker
5. Out on the Street
6. No Rules

If you have a higher-res artwork or any info ron where I can get a physical copy of this demo,  PLEASE either mail it direct to me here or simply add a link in the comment section.

Midnite Madness LXXIX—2015

ALRIGHT. Definitely the last show of the year, which is always a recap of the year's best releases. Thanks again to all the labels for sending me stuff—Daragh at Invictus, Iron Bonehead, High Roller Records, Hells Headbangers, NWN, Svart, Metal Blade, etc—and to you, the listeners, for keeping the show alive.
As mentioned in the show, I will be doing hourly broadcasts in 2016. I think this will keep the show fresher and more to the point, so look out for show dates real soon. SLÁN.

DEMOndays XIII

Definitely time for one of my favourite ever demos, the second Antichrist offering, "Put To Death". Like I said on a recent show, I wasn't so into the first demo when I got it along with the Bastard Priest one from Blood Harvest back in 2009, but this one blew me away first listen and still fuckin' does, ughhh. Why I bought the second demo of a band whose first one I wasn't so keen on still remains a mystery, but I am glad I did and also glad my favourite Antichrist track ever—the title track on this—didn't make it to the LP. At first I was shocked and somewhat annoyed at its omission, now I get it—they could never record it better than this!
Anyways, two tracks here for those lucky ones who have the album but never heard this demo. Full scans in the zipped folder. LETHAL VOLUME ONLY!!!

Antichrist (Sweden) Put To Death [2010]
1. Sign of the Beast
2. Put to Death
3. Virgin's Blood

DEMOndays XII

ALRIGHT. One from the collection here, something I first heard thanks to Cato's inclusion of it on the Thrashing Rage Vol. III comp. from 2012. Apparently I played the very same track on a pretty ripping South American bands-only show later that year, here.
But anyways, back to Chile, where Occult hails from. Other than this and the what's on the Archives (nothing), I don't know anything about the band except it reminds me of Körgull The Exterminator or maybe Infernal Curse from Argentina or Damnation from Sweden. So yes, kind of Bathory-infused thrash. Killer stuff, all scans in the zip folder. No bootlegging!

Occult (Chile) Metal Darkness [2011]
1. Defenders of Black Steel
2. Supreme Power
3. Metal Darkness

DEMOndays XI

ALRIGHT. Definitely almost forgot about this again, until I just sat down and stuck on this demo and was like "AHHH". Although this maybe isn't as good as the first demo, it's still far better than most demos of this style and era, and beyond. Two classic demos, ughhh.

Pentagram (Chile) Demo II [1987]
1. The Malefice
2. Profaner
3. Temple of Perdition
I am hoping to some degree this post will become "interactive". By this, I mean that most of my files are rips from the internet and some, as killer as the music is, are not very good/high quality recordings. Also, sometimes the artwork is incomplete or low-res. So, what I am asking here is for people to help improve these demos. If you have a better recording, higher-res artwork, info regarding the demo, etc, PLEASE either mail it direct to me here or simply add a link in the comment section. Go on.

DEMOndays X

OKAY. I know I am day late, again, but between beating Bosnia in the play-offs last nite and the general drudge through the daily mire, I just didn't have the time. SO, here it is—the classic "Anno Domini" demo from Hungary's Tormentor, featuring one Attila Csihar on vocals. This post is somewhat of a pre-cursor to tonite's show, volume five in the black metal series, Unholy Forces of Evil. I can't say anything about this to equal its ferocity, so just click the link below and you will be informed. One thing worth mentioning is that this was due to be their debut LP, but it got dropped and ended up coming out as a demo.

Tormentor (Hungary) - Anno Domini [1989]
1. Intro
2. Tormentor I
3. Heaven
4. Elisabeth Bathory
5. Damned Grave
6. In Gate of Hell
7. Tormentor II
8. Trance
9. Apocalypse
10. Lyssa
11. Anno Domini

DEMOndays VIII

ALRIGHT. Apparently I either forgot yesterday was indeed Monday or that I have this week-beginning obligation (both, actually), but here it is, nevertheless—volume VIII of the DEMOndays series. This week you are getting one track, but a great eleven-plus minutes. Perfect for the fog/changing season, should you be reading this in the Northern Hemisphere, that is. More black metal on the next Maniac Monday on November 17/18.

STRID (Norway) - "End Of Life" [1993]
1. End of Life

DEMOndays VII

ALRIGHT. Seeing as how you all lapped up that last dose of punk with zeal, here's another. Not quite as caustic as last week's demo, but every bit as ripping. And yes, the cover does kinda suck, but you know what they say about cover-judging...

AVFALL (Norway) - Das System [2011]
1. Norsk Moral
2. Avfall
3. Systemslave
4. Mein Klassenkampf
5. Dødsprofitt

DEMOndays VI

Here's a "new" band for a change, mangel maniacs Infernöh, from Sweden. Listeners to my show will have heard them on the Fight Back shows and sporadically where I can fit them in. Killer d-beat crust demo that I managed to get on vinyl—it's side B of the War Tjard EP—but the tape cover rules!
INFERNÖH (Sweden) - Demo [2011]
1. Gamdregel
2. Länge Leve Mig
3. Strida För Vadå?
4. Inferno
5. Kyla

DEMOndays V

A last little Live Evil post here in the form of the killer Bulldozer demo. That's right, there was a demo preceding the classic The Day Of Wrath début, but until 2013's The Exorcism compilation, it was "lost". According to Metal Archives, there was originally only three copies; one went to King Diamond, AC Wild (above) kept one, and the final copy went to Roadrunner, getting them signed. This demo is taken from that 2013 release compiling this demo that AC Wild "rediscovered" along with the Fallen Angel single that released the same year, 1984. Great early black/speed/thrash metal and you can see why it was a no-brainer to sign these Italian maniacs, as a good deal of the tracks are perhaps better than the ones on the LP. There is no cover, so I kinda knocked one up. I doubt King Diamond got one, but you never know...
BULLDOZER (Italy) - Demo 1984 [1984]
1. The Exorcism
2. Cut Throat
3. Welcome Death
4. Whiskey
5. Mad Men
6. Insurrection of the Living Damned
7. The Great Deceiver

Live Evil: Volume Two

London is preparing for the return of darkness and Live Evil, once again. That's right, my favourite real metal festival is back and, as usual, they've somehow managed to produce another impressive line-up. This year's edition sees Bulldozer and Tygers Of Pan Tang headline, with a killer pre-show on the Friday before a weekend of headbanging heaven.

The guys at Live Evil—Marek and Oscar—have included a free cassette compilation of some of the bands playing the weekend—featuring some exclusive tracks—free with each ticket, and they've been kind enough to let me preview it for your ears to get you all pumped up and ready to destroy Tuffnell Park this week. Hell's fire!
Here, some words from Marek:
Last year was the best Live Evil yet, which is saying something. The Dome is the perfect venue for us and the atmosphere was electric. This year will be even better, with our biggest and best line up and loads of great extras in place, including the free cassette. Our headliners are going to blow the doors off; we have all the young bands we wanted, including Helvetets Port (finally); and Chaos UK and Stray give us a slightly different flavour with the best hardcore punk and classic rock currently playing in the UK. I'm expecting to hear: "This is the best festival in the world, mate" at least ten times a day.
There are still some tickets available, so be sure to clear the calendar of all that lying around hungover for some heavy metal mania. All info here and tickets here.

TRACKLIST:
SIDE A
1. Mindless Sinner (Sweden) - "We Go Together"

DEMOndays IV

OKAY. So I've decided to keep the musical theme going here, delving deeper into the 80s death metal sound. Regular listeners of my show will have noticed I've played all three tracks from this demo somewhere in the last 76 shows, which says it all, really. Death metal or DIE!!!

INCUBUS (USA) - Incubus [1987]
1. God Died on His Knees
2. Reanimator's Mutilations
3. Engulfed in Unspeakable Horror

I am hoping to some degree this post will become "interactive". By this, I mean that most of my files are rips from the internet and some, as killer as the music is, are not very good/high quality recordings. Also, sometimes the artwork is incomplete or low-res. DEMOndays III

Very little to say about this one, as it is, for me anyways, one of the best death metal demos/releases ever. Just download it and kill everyone in sight.

MASSACRE (USA) - Chamber Of Ages [1986]
1. Chamber of Ages
2. Clangor of War
3. From Beyond
4. Symbolic Immortality

Midnite Madness LXXVI—Live Evil 2015

YES, it is that time of the month/year again—the return of the darkness... and Live Evil. Had a blast playing out some great tracks from bands who slayed past fests and also some who are due to destroy. Hour two of the show is mostly taken up by this year's official mix compiled by the guys—simply titled Live Evil: Volume II—that is due to be pressed to tape as a freebie with all tickets. So, if you haven't gotten yours yet, there still should be some available, all details are here.
Thanks to Marek and Oscar for bringing us this fifth edition of London's only real metal festival and to Joel De'ath at Music for Nations for his endeavours getting the mix to me in time for the show.
Midnite Madness returns next month. Who knows what I will be playing. You know what to do...

DEMOndays II

ALRIGHT. Following somewhat in a similar vein to last week's post, comes the deathrashing sounds of Melbourne, Australia's Incubus, not be confused with the Brazilian/American band or the great Incubus from Georgia, either.
This is ripping deathrash with pretty Quorthon-esque vocals. Quite what these maniacs were listening to that fuelled this demo is perhaps irrelevant now as this has almost totally vanished into the ether of the metal underworld over the years. I came into contact with this around 2007, not long after the compilation of this released compiling this and the first demo they went on to record under their next guise, Spectral Birth—I will post those at some point as they are both excellent, too.
A few years back, I got in touch with Hushy—who is (was?) part of another great Aussie act, Trench Hell—at his label The Coffins Slave, as they were set to be pressing all three demos to vinyl. Sadly, it never happened and The Coffins Slave is now defunct, so no idea if these will ever see a physical release any time soon, if ever.
So, for now, take a trip into the hellish visions of one of the original Australian bands that surely influenced Vomitor, et al, down to the PERFECT guitar sound. If anyone has a scan of the original cover, please mail it to me!

INCUBUS (Australia) - Sinful Dreams [1987]

1. Demented Lust
2. Retribution
3. Last Agonies
4. Passage of Souls/Sinful Dreams

DEMOndays I

Listeners to last month's show may have heard me lament the lack of places on the internet to discover old demos, right before I played a track from the Razor (USA) demo I found online somewhere recently. When I looked in my vault I realised this was demo number 691 and thought 'Hold on, maybe I should be the one to upload old demos' so here is the first installation of what will hopefully be a weekly post, every Monday, simply titled DEMOndays.
First up, the first (second?) Destruction demo. It seems some places say there is one preceding this that is just the first four tracks, from '83, but I think it's nothing more than internet urban legend. This demo fucking RIPS. In fact, I am not going to say any more. Just download and play it LOUD. "Frontbeast" is so fucking killer, I can't believe it didn't end up on any of their early albums. Btw, the top artwork is for the first-pressing of this demo, with the Skeletor-cum-Medusa one below belonging to the second press, both included in the zip folder.

DESTRUCTION (Germany) - Bestial Invasion Of Hell [1984]
1. Mad Butcher
2. Total Desaster
3. Antichrist
4. Frontbeast
5. Satan's Vengeance
6. Tormentor

I am hoping to some degree this post will become "interactive". By this, I mean that most of my files are rips from the internet and some, as killer as the music is, are not very good/high quality recordings. Also, sometimes the artwork is incomplete or low-res. Trapped Under Vice

It has been almost five years to the day since the last in the so-far-five-part mix series, Trapped Under Vice, was posted on this very blog. The original links for these mixes got lost to DMCA complaints etc. so I have finally re-uploaded all five volumes for your downloading and listening pleasure.
The series spanned a 14-month spell from July 2009 to September 2010 in which the prolific mixmaker, now simply titled DJ Fenriz, supplied me with five killer mixes, each one an almost entirely different genre to the last, which undeniably had its influence on my radio show. Of course, he went on to do more sweet mixes for this blog and others, before finally starting his own radio show earlier this year.
So here, once again, for all those who weren't around then or didn't know/care, are the mixes. I had to "remaster" some of the artworks due to the odd mistake and bad typeface, but if you want more info on the mixes such as tracklistings and wise words from the man himself about each compilation, click through the title to get to the original post for each respective mix. Cry out!

VOLUME I

VOLUME II

I will be (slowly) re-uploading all the missing links for all the AFITFOG mixes in time. 'til then, keep it locked to Radio Fenriz (especially the CULT METAL shows), for similar listening. Thanks again to Fenriz for keeping the flame lit and to all heavy metal maniacs worldwide. Hell awaits!

Midnite Madness LXXV—Metal Revenge

YES. Show 75. Thanks to all who managed to catch this week's show live and to those awaiting this very post. As always, you are who the show is for, so thanks for listening.
I will return like the darkness and evil itself as the clock strikes September 23nd with a Live Evil special, of some sort. That's enough for now, 'til then let the metal be your guide!

A Fist in the Face of God presents... DVP: Shredding The Iron Curtain - A Mix by Florian Grill

The summer may have ended somewhat prematurely, but the mixtape mania has not. This month I welcome a new name to my illustrious team of compilers, one Florian Grill, head of the excellent Dying Victims Productions label and author of the biblically-sized annual zine, Thrash Attack.
We've been corresponding rather sporadically since meeting a few years back, but I always keep an eye on the stuff his label puts out, as he's always championing two things I love: forgotten 80s bands and new bands that raise the spirits of the ancient metal gods. So I asked him to compile some of his best stuff from this year and some forgotten gems, and fail he did not, by showing me some bands I hadn't even heard of. On with the battery!

Over to Florian:
Having played some of my material previously on the Midnite Madness radio show, Dylan suggested I should put together a small mixtape with some material from Dying Victims Productions. I chose the more recent releases, which came out in the last three to four months, but I also included a second lot of tracks. Basically, it's a mixture of killer bands from East Germany who have released or are on the edge releasing their debut albums, with the other half being American bands that never made it over the demo stage in the 80s—except for Hirax obviously, but they sound totally different on this demo— but easily tear apart many properly recorded albums. Enjoy! [This tracklist is a little different to the one posted on VICE as it contains five extra tracks adding 28 minutes to the mix.]
Recent releases on DVP:

1. Deathstorm (Austria) - "Massgrave" [shredding death thrash]
2. Bastardizer (Australia) - "Demons Unleashed" [Whipstriker is known to your followers, that’s why only the 2nd band from the split is represented here]
3. Poseidon (Germany) - "Beyond the Seven Gates of Hell" [forgotten thrash from the late ‘80s]
4. Dresden (Germany) - "Sound of Silence" [‘86 thrash covering Simon and Garfunkel!
5. Vigilance (Slovenia) - "Tower of Black Sorcery" [raw black speed]
6. Throaat (USA) - "Evil Dead" [New York’s filthy death/thrash/heavy brigade]
7. Iron Kobra (Germany) – "Cult of the Snake" [amazing track by the heavy/speed metal warriors]
8. Sanctifying Ritual (Germany) - "Carved in Rotten Remains" [dirty underground death metal]
9. Satan's Cross (Mexico) - "Sumerian Night" [cool death/thrash/doom mix]
10. Witch Blade (Sweden) - "Ljusets Apostel" [traditional heavy metal]
11. Mion's Hill (Norway) - "Eaten Alive" [putrid black/death metal]
Other killer bands (New bands from East Germany and old overlooked demo stuff from the USA):
12. Nocturnal Witch (Germany) – H.M.S.S. [blackened thrash]
13. Fatal Violence (USA) - "Violence Is Golden" [power/speed metal, ’85]
14. Serpent (Germany) – Possessed by Night [Nwobhm inspired heavy/speed metal]
15. Blood Spill (USA) – Phantasm [totally possessed death/thrash, ’86]
16. Have Mercy (USA) - "Show Me Your Rage" [great power/speed metal, ‘84]
17. Schafott (Germany) - "Total Cleansing" [some more blackened thrash]
18. Gargoyle (USA) - "Burning Marrow" [raging thrash metal, ’86]
19. Hellhound (USA) - "Killing Spree" [killer speed metal band with long songs that never sucked, ‘85]
20. Division Speed (Germany) - "Blazing Heat" [war speed metal]
21. Savage Death (USA) - "Evil Dead" [insane early death metal,’85]
22. Hirax (USA) – Believe in the King [obviously known, but the demo is totally different but rips, ‘84]
23. Chörnyj Woron (Germany) - "V2 Over London" [2008 speed metal cult]

You can stream the 18-track version below also.

Midnite Madness LXXIV—Recollecting The Beast

ALRIGHT. This month's show saw me recalling the best of the older AFITFOG mixes, some of which date back to 2009. I will be re-uploading these sporadically over the next days/months/years, so keep checking back for new links.
Thanks as always to you for listening and making last month's show was Number 1 in the Mixcloud Metal Charts (!?!), and to Flo for his killer new mix that will follow this post shortly. I will return with more darkness and evil on August 25th. I kinda feel an old school black metal show brewing, but then I have four or five ideas for shows ready to be devoured... In time!

Live Evil 2015

Live Evil festival returns with its fifth and possibly finest line-up so far. Click here for info on tickets, etc. Upcoming devastation this autumn!
