Midnite Madness XCI—2016

ALRIGHTTT. Show 91, the year's closer, has me showcasing my favourite releases of this very year, 2016. Not necessarily, the best, but the ones I listened to most. Hails again to you all for listening, NTS for hosting, and also to all the music and promo-makers—without these four elements the show would not happen, so thank you.
I will return with more MIDNITE MADNESS every four weeks from January 11th, 2017. Here are all my show-dates for next year:
JANUARY 11th
FEBRUARY 8th
MARCH 8th
APRIL 5th
MAY 3rd & 31st
JUNE 28th
JULY 26th
AUGUST 23rd
SEPTEMBER 20th
OCTOBER 18th
NOVEMBER 15th
DECEMBER 13th
Haven't really figured out the format for next year's show, but I am thinking with the hour I have, the way I did it this year works best. So expect my month's listening, which will almost always be 30 mins of Golden Era metal, with 30 mins of newer stuff, give or take. Soon!

Oh, and one last thing. APOLOGIES to the few who requested download links for the last four shows I just didn't get round to uploading. I have done all four now plus the new one above, and they're below, or links on the individual show pages.

Midnite Madness XC—Addicted to Madness

Thanks to all for listening, as always. Next month sees the annual show return—so only the best, or my favourites, rather—on December 14th, hear me then.

A Fist in the Face of God presents... Live Evil Mix 2016

And we return, like the evil itself. Welcome back to the realm of real metal that is the Live Evil festival, returning to its rightful home, London's Boston Arms, after a cracking edition out in Berlin earlier this year.
Legendary doom metal pioneers Pentagram headline the festival's culmination on Sunday evening, but before they show us all how it's done there will be rare performances from NWOBHM heroes and relative obscurants, Demon and Millennium, respectively; black-thrash maniacs from down under, Destroyer 666; and hell, even the classic blues rock band Groundhogs are assembling a new lineup, featuring the original drummer, for this year's madness.
In what is perhaps the most varied lineup yet, there will be bands playing almost all styles, from death, thrash and black metal to a lot of traditional heavy metal styles – but don't miss out on the soon-to-be-legendary Black Magic returning to the UK for a rare appearance of their own. In fact, there will be a fair amount of newer bands playing bluesier/hard rock styles, which should mix up the audience a little. So in case you're worried that scary older brother types with cooler patches than yours will steal all your beer money, don't, because there'll be plenty of kids in flares looking a bit lost, wondering why they're not in a forest watching Wytch Hazel.
Anyway, I can say what I like here, but all you lot are interested in is the mix, so let's go. Thanks again to tall the bands for supplying the permission/tracks for the mix, and to Marek and Oscar for keeping it alive.
TRACKLIST:
1. Demon (UK) - "Intro: An Observation/Don't Break the Circle" [1982]
2. Antichrist (Sweden) - "Put to Death" [2010]
3. Horisont (Sweden) - "Odyssey" [2015]

1986-6-6 Mix on Rádio Quântica

ALRIGHT. As promised, albeit a little later than I originally thought, here is my first guest mix (!), compiled for the maniacs of Rádio Quântica's Satan Made Me Do It show. Yes, I guess Satan Made Me Do it guys made me do it, but I had blast making this. It was actually supposed to be Midnite Madness 86, but it felt like an old Maniac Monday show, and those guys seems to love the old format, so I decided to give it to them instead.
Just demo tracks from 1986. Not an essential list or best of, etc, as I've played out a bunch of the really killer stuff, so just what I felt like playing at the time and what I haven't gotten round to blasting on my show. As all came from MP3s with varying quality, so sound may fluctuate from good to, well, kinda shit, but ALL killer tracks. You can listen below. Maybe if enough people want it solo, I can maybe upload it, but just enjoy it whatever (I am up in hour two).
Shouts to the guys again for being patient and appreciative and all-round good people, makes it all the more worthwhile. Who knows, maybe I will return next year with a 1987 demo mix for them... Kill the weekend!

Midnite Madness LXXXVII—Bad Reputation

The return of darkness and, yep, some evil. Thanks to you maniacs as always for keeping the flame lit and listening in. I will return for more Midnite Madness on September 21st, so don't nobody go nowhere.
Btw, totally forgot to mention the track Fenriz previewed from the new Darkthrone album on his Soundcloud last week, click here to listen. And, I also forgot to mention Cato Sadomancer of Deathhammer's new band, Mirage, with Jan of Occvlta on vocals, great deathpunk!

Midnite Madness LXXXVI—MADNESS FUCKIN' MADNESS

Show 86. Hails to all the promo senders, and to you, dear listeners, as always.
Next show August 24, 2016. If you wanna hear that godly female-fronted punk mix, here it is. Other than that, I've pretty much run out of shit to write here. Stay clean.

Midnite Madness LXXXV—The Radio Show

ALRIGHT. Not dead yet! NTS were a month late broadcasting last month's show, and I didn't want it to go to waste, so here it is finally. Yes, I know maybe some tracks now overlapped with the recent Radio Fenriz, but such is life. Next show is on July 27th

A Fist in the Face of God presents... Live Evil Berlin Mix 2016

No, you haven't awakened from a deep sleep where summer totally passed you by. It's not October, and – if you live in Tufnell Park – your neighbourhood isn't about to be taken over by long hairs. Instead, the organisers of Live Evil have decided to indulge in some Channel-crossing, taking their now-legendary underground metal festival to Berlin. And boy, have they got a lineup for you.

The invasion takes place at Cassiopeia from May the 27th to the 28th—with the pre-show elsewhere—showcasing a range of bands both new and old, hailing from the USA to Brazil to Finland and beyond. In fact, a few of the bands playing this year's event were literal nobodies when the first Live Evil took place back in 2010, a point I raised with Tooth Log of Brooklyn's Natur at last year's festival. His reply was simple, yet very American: "WE'RE ALUMNI NOW, DUDE!" And right he was.

Take Occvlta, too. Their appearance back in 2010 was their inaugural desecration; now, the world waits as they prepare to drop their debut LP. So you've got some of the underground's success stories playing, with everyone's thrash favourites Antichrist closing proceedings at the after show on Saturday. Unfortunately Manilla Road declined to appear on this mix, citing their music is available online to listen to, but Live Evil did come up with this little 8-bit teaser. Damn, that really took me back to playing Castlevania on the SNES as a mulletted young Slayer-tee-wearing lad.

But onto the mix: almost 70 minutes of heavy, death, black, thrash, etc. All bands sent their songs over, and some even contributed exclusive tracks, so hails to them for their work in making both this and the festival happen. As not to show bias, I used the running order of the festival to arrange the track list, so it can also double-up as a kind of band time guide, or something. Shouts to Marek, and Ezio and Ricky of Wolf City, for making it happen. Snap up the few remaining tickets here.

TRACKLIST:
1. Nachash (Norway) "A Necromancer's Lament" [2015]
2. Vulcano (Brazil) "The Tenth Writing" [2014]
3. Morbid Panzer (Germany) "Sodomizer of Death" [2015]
4. Hard Action (Finland) "Tunnel Vision" [2016]
5. Occvlta (Germany) "Last ov the Sabbaths (Live)" [2015]
6. Zex (Canada) "Wild Blood (Alternate version)" [2014]
7. Dungeon (UK) "Innocent Evil" [2016]
8. Chapel Of Disease (Germany) "Symbolic Realms" [2015]
9. Indian Nightmare (Germany) "Betrayers" [2016]

13. Vorum (Finland) "Current Mouth" [2015]
14. Natur (USA) "The Invitation" [2015]
15. Antichrist (Sweden) "Terror Dimension" [2011]

Midnite Madness LXXXIV—Descent Into Madness

More radio waves here for your ears to devour. I will return on June 1st and 29th next month, so be sure to return for more Midnite Madness then. Soon!

Friday 8 April 2016

Midnite Madness LXXXIII—Warriors of Steel

Thanks to all who listened in live, as always, and thanks to all the promo-senders who made up the majority of this show. I will return next month on May 4th for more of the same. Got more new stuff to play, so, until then...

Tuesday 22 March 2016

DEMOndays XXI

Fuck, I know these posts are getting less and less frequent, and for that I apologise, but I guess I was being a little unrealistic saying I would post every Monday in the beginning, eh. So, from now I will try to post something weekly, or whenever I can. Got loads of demos, just not enough time/desire to use the fucking internet (hate).
So with all that outta the way, here's the killer Nightmare City demo that Henry Yuan's excellent Electric Assault Records put out a few years back. They're actually playing London tomorrow night with local deathpunk scumlords, Shallow Sanction, at the Unicorn in Camden (ish). And it's free. Oh, and DJ DSOD—Amulet's Dave Sherwood on Drums—is DJing. I am hoping this broken old vessel is going to permit my attendance, but will of course be a blast either way.

Nightmare City (Sweden) Nightmare Tape [2014]
1. Nightmare City
2. Do You Wanna Die?
3. Distortion Til Deaf
4. Riders of Doom

Friday 11 March 2016

Midnite Madness LXXXII—Maidens of Metal

ALRIGHT. Show 82 and number three for this year sees me return to my gimmicky old ways with a themed show—this one featuring female singers/bands only. As always, it isn't any sort of definitive list, just 60 minutes of metal cooked up for you to listen to once and never again (probably).
The ancient returns on April 8th for more Midnite Madness, and I've now got a bunch of new stuff to play so be sure to tune in then. Soon!

Tuesday 1 March 2016

DEMOndays XX

I know it's been a month since I last posted a demo on here, apologies. Just been busy and sick, but mainly busy being sick. Lame!
ANYWAYS, here is one of the best demos of the so-called "modern era"—Bastard Priest's d-beat death metal blitzkrieg, Merciless Insane Death, ripped from my own copy of the demo. Yes, these tracks are the B-side of their debut "album", Under The Hammer Of Destruction, but I am fairly sure they re-mastered it or re-recorded the drums or something, because this version sounds way better. Hard to believe it is almost 10 years old, too, but really hoping for a return from these lords one day soon. Was killer to see Maim play the title track of this (with Sindre of Obliteration on vocals if memory serves me correctly?) at Live Evil 2011. Mightiest hails to Matt Mendoza and Inventor. Death metal or DIE!!!
Bastard Priest (Sweden) Merciless Insane Death [2008]
1. Under the Hammer of Destruction
2. From Beyond
3. Merciless Insane Death
4. Graveyard Sacrifice
5. En Hälsning Från Helvetet (Bombanfall cover)

A Fist in the Face of God presents... Too Fast to Die!!!—Sgt. Salsten's Raging Metal Mix!

Since Sergeant Salsten moved to Tasmania, his band workload has gone down, understandably (even though he is working on a speed metal project down there called Torpedo, shhh), and his time for making insanely cool mixes has increased. I've posted a lot of killer compilations on here over the years, and many have surprised with me with their selections, but Daniel's are something else.

First of all, he draws his own covers, and secondly, he usually sends what most people would consider two, maybe even three mixtape's worth of tracks, this one being no exception. I can't praise this one enough, but at over two hours running time it really shall separate the die-hards from the dabblers. I'll leave the the rest in his more than capable hands...

So Dylan asked me to do another mix and I thought this time I'll make one with only violent death and thrash metal. Some of the bands actually lean more towards speed or black metal, but most importantly it's all fast and ripping, no wimpy shit guaranteed! So grab a six-pack or two and break your neck with these intense tunes for a couple of hours if ya got the balls. This mix is way long so only for sick maniacs, thrash to the death cuz there is no tomorrow!

Midnite Madness LXXXI—Cult of Madness

ALRIGHT. Another dose for all you maniacs. Some old, some new, all shit I've been listening to since the last show, as is the way nowadays.
Apologies for the no-demo post this week, I just didn't have time what with composing this week's show and also sorting Sgt. Salsten's new mix, which I will post once VICE have posted it first (looking like it'll be next week now). For now you will have to enjoy the preview towards the end of this week's show. SOON!
P.S. The screenshot above is from the so-far last instalment of Twin Peaks, a movie compiled using mostly outtakes from the Fire Walk With Me movie—imaginatively titled Fire Walk With Me: The Missing Piecesbut also additional scenes after the last shot from the original TV series. Crazy this exists and I only found out about it last week. So, assuming I am not the only one who missed it, it is here for those of you who would like to see it. Recommended for TP maniacs only!

DEMOndays XIX

I didn't forget! Okay, I almost did, hence the slightly obvious choice here. Well, perhaps not everyone has heard this, so if you haven't, I envy you. This is one of the best demos of the 80s, for me. Its deathrashing intensity and sheer malevolence have limited my listening of this to as little as possible, as it usually makes me want to smash up the whole house, etc. haha. Death metal or DIE!!!
Necrovore (USA) Divus De Mortuus [1987]
1. Mutilated Death
2. Slaughtered Remains
3. Divus de Mortuus
4. Toxic Decay
This is one of many rips I found on the internet over the years and it is the one I've settled with cos having, like, four different versions was annoying, haha. However, if you have a better recording, higher-res artwork, info regarding the demo, etc, PLEASE either mail it direct to me here or simply add a link in the comment section. And don't try to rip it from one of the compilations or bootlegs, original tape rip please!

DISCLAIMER: If you own the recording and want it removed, please do not be an internet snitch and make a DMCA claim, just email me or leave a comment and I will remove it. Thanks.

DEMOndays XVIII

PhotobucketTime for another one of my favourites of recent years. Okay, I didn't realise it is as old as it is until I started this post, but you know what I mean. Just great metalpunk all-round here and shouts to those who 'got' the intro to "Christian Wimps"!

If you would like to read an interview with Victor, click here [2014] or here [2011], or to listen to a mix he did for me, click here. These MP3s came from the man himself with these words—"TOTAL SUPPORT TO DOWNLOADS... BUT BUY THE STUFFS IF YOU LIKE. SUPPORT THE BANDS AND UNDERGROUND LABELS". Hails eternal!

Whipstriker (Brazil) Midnight Crust [2010]
1. Bombhead
2. Self Destruction
3. Under Vigilance
4. WCA (World Cup Alienation)
5. Christian Wimps

Monday 18 January 2016

DEMOndays XVII

ALRIGHT. Time for a demo from my city of birth, Dublin. Yes, Disguise—featuring both string-players from Zom—play the kind of caustic, unwavering d-beat frenzy that seems to be most popular here on the DEMOnday thread. Fuck, there may even be the odd Zom riff in there, too. Apologies for the low-quality, but the guys are selling it here at a higher rate, so you know what to do. It's ripping stuff, be brave!
Disguise (Ireland) Demo 2012 [2012]
1. Useless Law
2. Disguise
3. Altered States
4. Total Aeon
5. Laughter
6. Nuclear Winter
7. Moral Hysteria
8. Roots
9. Poison Reality

Midnite Madness LXXX—Rendezvous with Madness

And we're back. Yes, this year sees the return of the old show in a new format. Well, it's half the length, BUT, as this is the case, you get double the quality. Not bad, eh?
Shouts to NTS guys, promo warriors and you, the listeners, as always. See on the 10th of next month for more metal, punk, metalpunk, and the like. SLÁINTE.

Tuesday 12 January 2016

Lastly, would just like to a send the mightiest HAIL out to a YouTube user mysteriously titled "A .Hc" who has been compiling ALL my shows and mixes into YouTube playlists. Crazy. I only found this by total accident last week when trying to find a link to an old mix. So, if any of you love the music I play but hate to hear me say ALRIGHT and ANYWAYS and my usual, dry soundbytes over and over, then this is for you. Go on, click here to take me out of my radio show, haha. Again, huge thanks to the user for all his endeavours. If you get in touch, A .Hc, I might have something for you...

Monday 11 January 2016

DEMOndays XVI

Definitely one of my all-time favourite thrash demos, this one. Evil and fast—just how I like it. Download and THRASH!!!
Desecration (USA) Psycho [1985]
1. Intro
2. Psycho
3. Death's Revenge
4. Halloween
Most of these files are rips from the internet and some, as killer as the music is, are not very good/high quality recordings. Also, sometimes the artwork is incomplete or low-res. If you have a better recording, higher-res artwork, info regarding the demo, etc, PLEASE either mail it direct to me here or simply add a link in the comment section. Go on.

A Fist in the Face of God presents... Full Speed Ahead Vol III - A Mix by Hades & Olof

You know, with every year that passes, the 80s get further away. Luckily for me, missing the 20th century is almost a worldwide hobby these days, and what better way to roll back some musical years than by blasting your ears with the shrieking sounds of 1980s speed metal.
It was on this year's first day, as I cursed the awakening of yet another year further from metal's golden age, when I got an email from my buddy Theodor "Hades", informing me of his latest mixtape, this time featuring tracks picked by Olof of the Swedish speed metal band Enforcer. And boy, did they do good, even throwing in a good few tracks from bands I'd never heard of before. Over to them...

A few words from Hades:
For the new Full Speed Ahead compilation I asked my pal Olof Wikstrand of the band Enforcer to join me in selecting half of the tracks, because we both worship this genre and I knew he'd pick some kickass tunes. I'm totally satisfied with the result, and I'm sure it's going to interest anyone who likes fast 'n' wild heavy metal, so play it loud and bang your skulls!
And from Olof:
Hades asked me if I wanted to join him for the next Full Speed Ahead compilation, so of course I immersed myself right into it and collected a bunch of my favourite tracks of both well known and some more unknown bands. Speed metal is, in my opinion, the ultimate metal genre, being the most aggressive, passionate, heavy and serious. The energy level is higher than any of the modern shit and contains everything I could possibly ask for. Enjoy!
TRACKLIST:
01. Powerlord (USA) - "The Invasion of the Lords" [1986]
02. Mad Max (Germany) - "Shout and Cry" [1984]
03. Fingernails (Italy) - "Just Like You Want" [2006]
04. Lizzy Borden (USA) - "Godiva" [1985]
05. Randy (Denmark) - "The Beast" [1986]
06. Znöwhite (USA) - "Do or Die" [1984]
07. Acero Letal (Chile) - "Por la Gloria del Metal" [2009]
08. Blind Guardian (Germany) - "Trial By the Archon/Wizard's Crown" [1988]
09. Van Halen (USA) - "Hot for Teacher" [1984]
10. Death Dealer (Canada) - "Cross My Way" [1983]
11. Impulse (Bulgaria) - "Gladiator" [1989]
12. Kratos (USA) - "Iron Beast" [1985]
13. Terminal (SWE) - "Satanski Narocila" [2015]

LONG LIVE THE LOUD!!!

Tuesday 5 January 2016

DEMOndays XV

ALRIGHT. Apologies for the lateness and also the no posts lately. Can't say I've been too busy, just forgetful and trying to avoid the internet, is all. So, let's go back to basics here with some of that good ol' thrash metal Americans of the 80s were so good at producing. This is the demo of legendary Bay Area thrashers Testament. Regular listeners to the show will know I'm not too big on Testament, but this demo fucking slays, especially "Reign of Terror" (best version, for sure). Play it loud, and all that.

Legacy (USA) Demo:1 [1985]
1. Burnt Offerings
2. Reign of Terror
3. Alone in the Dark
4. Raging Waters
Most of these files are rips from the internet and some, as killer as the music is, are not very good/high quality recordings. Also, sometimes the artwork is incomplete or low-res.
